Abortion
Some important questions to ask yourself if you are considering abortion:
- Am I really pregnant? It is possible to have a positive pregnancy and NOT be pregnant. WRC can confirm your pregnancy through a limited ultrasound exam.
- Is my pregnancy located where it should be? WRC can determine if your pregnancy is located in the uterus, where it should be, and not in the fallopian tube. A pregnancy located in the fallopian tube is known as an ectopic pregnancy. It requires immediate medical attention and can be life-threatening. Having an abortion will not resolve an ectopic pregnancy.
- Is my pregnancy viable? WRC can determine if your pregnancy is viable, meaning there is a heartbeat. Most miscarriages occur during the first trimester, or the first 13 weeks. Up to 1 in 5, or 20%, of early pregnancies end in miscarriage.
- How far along am I? How far along you are will determine what kind of abortion procedure you will be eligible to receive, which impacts cost and risk. WRC can tell you how far along you are.
- Do I need to be tested for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's) before I terminate my pregnancy? Yes. Having an STD when you get an abortion can negatively impact your reproductive health for a lifetime causing such things as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). WRC can provide information about where you can be tested.
